About the Role

As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the operational excellence of cloud-based infrastructure, with a focus on Microsoft Azure. This role is instrumental in supporting the delivery of the organisation's cloud strategy, maintaining service continuity, and driving operational improvements through automation and collaboration.
Reporting to the IT Operations, you will work closely with IT teams and business units to design, implement, secure, and manage Azure cloud infrastructure-ensuring systems are available, scalable, and cost-effective.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Technology Operations team members.
- Assess, manage, and communicate risks associated with infrastructure and operational tasks.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures and ensure compliance with best practices.
- Plan and drive continuous improvement initiatives in line with technology trends.
- Maintain and upgrade systems, equipment, and software to ensure performance and security.
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Bicep, or CDK.
- Implement robust security controls (e.g. encryption, firewalls, access policies).
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align Azure capabilities with business needs.
- Manage cloud networking and integrate with on-prem environments (e.g. Palo Alto Networks).
- Monitor, log, and proactively resolve system issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Drive cloud cost-optimization and performance-tuning initiatives.
- Lead incident and outage response, disaster recovery planning, and execution.
- Maintain compliance with industry regulations and best-practice frameworks.
- Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement across the cloud platform function.
Skills and Experience Required
- Azure Certifications: AZ-104 and/or AZ-305 (or equivalent practical experience).
- 2+ years' hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure in a production environment.
- Strong experience in virtualised infrastructure and IT systems administration.
- Proficient in scripting and IaC tools: PowerShell, Bash, Python, Terraform, Bicep, CDK.
- Familiar with both Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and DevOps toolchains.
- Understanding of secure development practices and cloud security principles.
- Experience in business-critical systems, incident management, and DR planning.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communicator with strong documentation and interpersonal skills.
